their dad

So he's pretty much the best person I know. He's never too busy for them. Never raises his voice to them. And teaches them firsthand how to live a life that brings honor to the Lord. I love all of those things about him. I love watching him be daddy to our babies. And I know that they are all the better because as much as God gave them to us...He gave him to them.

It's been a pretty quiet and relaxing day. We had a wonderful service at church and then came home to fix up Jase's favorite Father's Day dinner. We enjoyed a yummy ribeye steak grilled perfectly along with baked sweet potatoes {for the girls} and regular ol' white ones for the menfolk, sauteed onions, squash and zucchini, salad, and delicious artisan bread. It was sublime. Yum. Me.

The kids gave Jase their cards which they each wrote in themselves.  Sooo sweet.

Joel signed his name {still managing to get his "J" backwards, funny boy.} and then drew something that I couldn't recognize but he assured me that his daddy would. Then he asked, "You write somepin for me mama?" I agreed. "You write, 'I gonna pin you down, dad!' in daddy's card for me?" Again, I complied.

These two are so funny. They wrestle and yell and throw each other around and nearly fight to the death on our bed each day. They can be eating dinner and look over at each other and with a sheepish look say,

"I'm about to pin you down."

All serious like and with lots of attitude.

Then it ensues. The pinning down. How I love to watch them do this. Even if Jase is now responsible for messing up our pillows. Sheesh. But I just can't get onto him about it.

I mean.

They're just so flippin' cute.

Sydney's card literally cracked me up. I love how she praised Jase for taking care of "the family." You gotta love this girl. She is full of moxy.

Which many days gets her in trouble.

But today, she had us chuckling with her note to Jase.

And Kennedy is at a sweet age where she's being extra kind...she's maturing...and, she doesn't want to risk losing that new phone of hers! lol. In all honesty though, she is getting to be such a fun girl. I love seeing her in this new stage of life. Sure, it makes me sad too. She's growing up and taking steps that I wasn't quite sure I was ready for. But she is becoming more of who she is, if that even makes sense. She is more comfortable in her own skin than ever before. And it's been really fun to watch that transformation happen for her.

And his gift?

Jase only needed two things.

A navy pair of khakis for church.

And a new wheel barrow.

The kids and I shopped high and low. I won't bore you with the details. But it didn't all come together like I had envisioned. Sufficed to say, after many {many} stores, and many {many} attempts at snagging a much needed Father's Day gift...Jase said to let it go.

Which is so like him.

There have been many years we have forgone the whole Mother's Day/Father's Day gift giving thing. This year, I had told him about a fundraiser for another family's adoption around MD and how he could get me the nest necklace if he wanted. :) Which he gladly did. So I was trying hard to reciprocate for FD. It just wasn't happening.

So he just had us today. Us and a yummy meal.

But I think down deep, that's all he wants.

Well, that and an adorable little one named Gabe in Henan, China! A little one who will fit just perfectly right there in front of his daddy next year. Soon, Jase will be daddy to two daughters and two sons. The reality of that makes my heart sing. And knowing that he is just as ready as I am to hop on that plane, and bring our baby boy home, settles what I already know to be true...

He really is the best daddy ever.
