unexpected~

So this past Sunday night, we had a talent show at church benefitting our youth mission camp for this summer. The lady who was heading it up asked me to snap a few pictures of her daughter singing since I would be in the audience and she would be busy with the task of getting each act to their places, etc.

It's like an hour before the show starts and I grab my camera bag and check for a compact flash. I remembered that I had set one out in the kitchen on the shelf because I had taken some pics of Joel and Sydney cooking the weekend before. Jase and Kennedy were out of town for her first youth retreat {Yay! She had a blast!} and so I was home with Sydney Baby and the Tornado. We went all out and made stuffed pasta shells {with ricotta...which Jase hates!} AND, some yummerito roasted garlic. Yes we did! We took full advantage of the fact that we could enjoy these culinary delights without the guilt of knowing that Jase wouldn't like them!

I remembered that had set the memory card on the shelf after we finished cooking because I had two sessions last week and I didn't want that card to be mixed in with others that I would be using. Score one for Kam who was thinking ahead! :) But I had completely forgotten that before that, I set my camera down on the island to put the dish in the oven and looked up to see Sydney holding it and snapping a quick shot.

This is a big "no, no!" in our house. My camera is off limits! It's not that I don't trust my babies with my camera.

It's that I don't trust them at all with my camera!

They know full well that they are not to even pick it up! But as I was closing the oven, I heard that familiar click that I adore. Only I wasn't the one causing said click and so I quickly said,

"Syd, what the hockey baby!?! You know that you are not to use my camera!"

She apologized and quickly set it down. I pulled the card out, put it on the shelf and thought nothing of it.

Until Sunday afternoon around 5:30 when I checked my card and found this.

I was telling mom last weekend, before finding this unexpected picture, that I needed one that she took at Thanksgiving of Syd and Lucy {and Bella}. I told her that I wasn't sure, but that it may have been the last picture ever taken of Lucy and that I was sure it was the last one taken of the two of them together.

But then there was this one. Taken just two days before the accident. And wouldn't you know it? Syd was the one who snagged it. Sweet girl. She's doing well. Really well. Better than me still. We are all getting used to life with one dog and figuring out how to let Lucy go. It's been really hard of course. But Jase said the other day that he could see Sydney trying to bond with Georgia. Georgia is slowly letting her. It's a process. And even last night, Sydney said, "Hey mom, Georgia let me pick her up and lay with her today!" My sweet baby. She's trying so hard. Lucy was always her dog, and Georgia, if she were anyone's, was Kennedy's. But in typical Syd style, she is working her mojo on that dog and if I know her at all, she will win Georgia over before too long. You just can't resist it. That Sydney Baby, she's a lover and a hugger and an all around lovable kiddo. And Lucy knew that full well.
