Thrifty Thursday~

I just love my bloggy buddy Rebecca! She's so stinkin' creative and smart and funny and on and on. Today she launched a new Thursday theme and I just couldn't resist. I should really be folding laundry right now but had to crank out a little post. You can visit Rebecca's blog to read all about it. But basically, I subscribe to much the same theory as my friend here. Live on less moolah, recycle what you can, and be a wise steward of the resources God has blessed you with. For our family, that means shopping at yard sales, visiting Goodwill on occasion, and buying our kids clothes mainly at places like T@rget on clearance. Among other things...

For this first Thrifty Thursday, I draw your attention to my steal of a deal, cheap furniture. A little history...when we built our home 5 years ago, I wanted to move away from the cherry, traditional tables and entertainment center that we'd had for years. But I didn't want to spend much money. I wanted the sleek, black, PB look but who can afford $400 for an end table!?! So I hit the flea market that's less than a mile from where we live. This is what I found. They were solid, heavy wood stained and had hideous drawer pulls on them. Like from the 50's! Guess what they cost? $5 stinkin' dollars for the pair!!! And I painted them up and voila!

I also found these chairs! One was $5 at a yard sale and the other we traded for! So it was FREE! Now they had awful yellow/orange-ish cusions...like Archie Bunker had! ha! I spent the day with my grandmother, Nan, and we sewed us up some covers and in total I spent less than $25! Woo Hoo! These chairs flank our fireplace and are great when company is over. My friend even borrowed them to "stage" her house when they were selling! So funny! You see who loves these chairs the most? Lucy...our spunky schnauzer!

So what about you? How have you been thrifty?

Oh my gosh I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this! You rocked out those end tables and chairs, Kam! Unbelievable! Now I'm even MORE motivated to hit flea markets for some living room furniture. I too love the sleek black PB look... I am all about neutrals these days for my walls and furniture, and just using accessories to pop some color here and there. :)

Thanks so much for the inspiration!! I am SO hitting the flea market this weekend!!

Wow! You did some great work there! I usually hate garage sales, but think I better start checking some out! Thanks for the tips!

You rock girl! A woman after my own heart! My entire house is furnished in early yard sale (no one would guess) and my kids look fabulous in their "recycled" clothes (and so do my hubby and I). I love to brag about my deals and steals to friends that can't quite believe it! You know what is awesome is that I make my Christmas money every year selling my children’s well used clothing at several consignment sales. It all just makes sense to me and I feel happy being the queen of total recycling!!
