Who'd have thought "shiRt" would trip her up~

So I just have to share a Saturday funny. And I warn you now, if you are easily offended, you'll want to move on right now to your next neighborly blog. But if you're in need of an innocent laugh, read on.

I'm schooling Syd on Thursday. She's learning about how certain letters can drastically change the sound of some vowels. We are looking at "r" in particular and how if you put the letter "r" after a vowel, it makes that vowel sound differently. For instance, the word pat with the short "a" sound becomes part when you add the "r" and you loose the short a sound. So we have this little game of sorting different words that all either have "or", "ur", "ar" and "ir". She has to sort them into rows according to their vowel. Then, at the end, we scramble them again and read all of the words together to make sure she's got it. {Bored with this lesson yet? Hang on!}

So she's trucking along with reading this stack of words and it goes something like this~

Syd: "nurse, curl, short, park, sh*t"

Mama: "Syd, what was that last one, baby?"

Syd: "it was sh*t. i said sh*t. sh*t, sh*t"

Mama: {yeah, that makes FIVE TIMES she has said it now.} I'm dying on the inside and biting my tongue not to laugh. "Baby..."

Syd: interrupting me... "Oh, it's not sh*t. It says shirt."

And she moves right along. Now, I know what you are thinking. My child said that word SIX times without me stopping her. But in my defense {weak, I know!}, it happened really fast! And I was about to stop her when she realized it herself. But here's the cool thing, she didn't even know that what she was saying was bad. I LOVE that! She had no clue whatsoever. So yay for that! And yay for a mid morning funny for this mama!

I do so love my Syd and I'm thinking she'll read this one day and howl. There. I sure hope you're not offended because I found it hilarious. She's just the best...always good for a laugh an hour, at least!
