mother's day :: iphone version

So I didn't even touch my Canon on Mother's Day. I thought of it but said, na. It rained buckets that day. Crazy buckets of rain. And in the "it's my special day" haze, I didn't even think to get a picture of me and the babies.

I told you a few days ago, I'm slipping.

It's all good though. I had my phone and while the shots are never what they would be, the goal here is to capture and write real life stuff y'all. And the fact that I just didn't want to pick up my camera on Mother's Day is as real life as it gets right now.

I awoke to the Tornado getting in bed with me. Stroking my cheeks and saying, "Mama, I up!," while his daddy showered. I had the fleeting thought, this is a sweet memory. But I wasn't ready to stand up {lol} and if I did, the moment would pass. Enter iPhone.

I grabbed it off of the nightstand {where it sits each evening so Jase and I can battle it out playing stupid games against each other while, you guessed it, laying in bed with each other.} Go figure. It's how we roll.

Anyway, it was still very dark in our room. No lights, little sun. But this is our boy giving me my first Mother's Day lovin' of the day. Suweet.

We had a fantastic morning at church. Sunday school with my 7-8th grade girls {whom I love because the make me laugh every single week} and then a wonderful service to follow. Great, great morning at church. Then we headed home for lunch. We really never go out to eat for holidays. Too crowded. Too expensive. And really too much trouble for what it's worth to us.

Can I just say? I love a man who will grill a filet mignon in the rain for his beloved on Mother's Day. Yes I do. I wish I had thought to grab the phone for a shot of that. :( But it was sooo yummy, let me tell ya. Filet grilled perfectly, topped with caramelized onions and gorgonzola butter.

Yum. Me.

Add some fine baked sweet potatoes, yummy five grain bread and my late grandmother's lemonade cake?  {She made me one of these scrumptious cakes on each of my birthdays growing up. When she died, my aunt gave me the 70's green bundt pan that she always used. It came out perfectly!} So with all that yumminess...you've got one un-hungry mama on Mother's Day. I was so full and loved every minute of being at our own table with the ones I love most on this rainy day.

After we finished our lunch, the kiddies showered me with their homemade gifts. From Kennedy, a book of reasons why she loves her mama along with some pretty fantastic coupons for me. Love it. From Sydney, some paisley coasters that she made at school along with a binder filled with original artwork from she and Joel. Love it. And from the Tornado, a little baby food jar decoupaged and filled with scented bath salt that he made at preschool. Love it. He also came home with a picture of himself from Sunday School that day.

Love it, love it, love it.

Jase and I don't typically buy each other gifts for the various holidays. We rarely do for Valentine's or the parent days or even our anniversary. It's just our thing. We're more likely to purchase 25 trees to plant in the yard or several years ago, we did buy a GPS instead of anniversary gifts. We're just more practical that way...because it seems we're always saving for something!

This year, we're saving for a trip to China. So those other days just pale in comparison to that!

But he did buy me something that I saw on an adoptive family's blog...they were making them as a fundraiser and it was really reasonable. It's so sweet. Four little eggs in our nest. And an adorable card mentioning how he can't wait to bring the little prince home...I'm so glad we're on the same team. My hubs is just my favorite person in the whole wide world.

So that was Mother's Day. Hmmm. How sweet it is.

Glad it was so happy! I was laughing about the GPS gift from years ago. We don't really do gifts either anymore, if anything we take a trip, something we can all do together. Here's to this year's big one for you and for us.

PS - My sister made me that same necklace charm for Mother's Day. How funny.
