if i could...

Poor Gabe has had quite a bit of physical challenges lately! An unexpected surgery and life with a another catheter for two weeks, meeting the mean corner of our sofa table during an all out Star Wars light saber battle with Joel that left him with a huge shiner and recently, running in front of me in a dark bedroom only to be catapulted into our armoire with a cut on his cheek. Geez.

And call me crazy, but I like to document stuff like black eyes. Because it's part of everyday life. That bruiser lasted for almost three weeks...and so it just needed photographing! If I could, I'd do one of two things with my camera {or both!}...1} travel with adopting families to document their Gotcha Days and 2} hang out in families' homes and capture life being lived. Saturday morning breakfast, reading the Scriptures before bedtime, pillow fights.

Don't get me wrong, my talent and progression as a photographer has a loooooong way to go. I will never be where I want to be in that regard...and that's a good thing. Always learning. Always pushing. And failing miserably most of the time. But my absolute favorite images of our kids are ones that have been shot in our home...doing school work or cooking dinner or playing with each other on our bed. And some of the ones I treasure most, are the shots from the days we met our boys. They are like the hospital pictures to us, treasures. So there you have it...my dream photography gigs. Neither of which is likely to happen! But still, images like these remind me of what I love to do...not really posing families or contriving a cool stance for a senior {because I struggle with both!}...but just catching real life stuff. Like waking up from a nap with bed head, and dirty hands {ooops} and eating goldfish crackers {and leaving the cheek crumbs} while sporting a black eye. That's the stuff of life, y'all. At least, it is for this mama. ♥

You talked about traveling with families for adoptions as a job. It's a real thing!! What an awesome job. Can you imagine how often you'd cry at work though? Here you go: http://thearchibaldproject.com/
