So we kinda celebrated. I'm sorry to say that Father's Day was bit of a bust around here. Oh, we had a great service at church and lots of family togetherness time. But it was a bit overshadowed by some news we got Friday. My long suffering hubs has more kidney stones. THREE to be exact. And one of them? It's a humdinger. And it's the furthest along and it may be too big to pass, so it's blocking the other two menaces.
Ouch.
The urologist told him all the stuff we already knew...drink, drink, drink. Add lemon. Yada, yada, yada. Poor man. He has a bladder the size of a walnut anyway. He drank 5 liters of water each day over the weekend. Needless to say, he was back and forth back and forth. So we didn't go anywhere...I mean anywhere except church. Which was actually kinda nice to just be lazy because we had to.
He's been plagued by stones for eleven years. It's so weird to actually be begging God to let him start hurting. If you're not hurting...the stone is not moving. Our prayers are always just the opposite. But in this case, he has a new script for pain meds and if he doesn't pass it, he will have lithotripsy on July 5th. We don't want him to have to do it if we can help it...because that's a ton o' money for our deductible. But praise God we have it! And so I'm just torn. I don't want him to hurt at all, ever! I also had plans for that money! lol.
He reckoned that by Sunday, he would surely be hurting...these stones would surely be moving. So he requested his Father's Day meal on Saturday night. We grilled up some yummy steaks and topped it off with his favorite, hot fudge cake. The kids gave him their cards. Joel's was made at church. {I want to do a whole post about it specifically because of something he "wrote"...but will save it for another day. Not ready yet.} We didn't exchange gifts this year for Mother's Day or Father's Day. Instead, we bought and planted TWENTY trees in the spring. They were much needed and it was fine by both of us to do it this way. He did love his cards though and got big hugs and kisses as he read each one.

After lunch, we just sat around and watched tv and let the kids wallow all over us in our bed. Jase actually read that strenuous activity can cause a stone to move so he wrestled with Joel for a while! So funny, these two. I was lazy and used my Blackberry for these, and it shows!

No luck. Oh, they had fun. But it was no help in the kidney stone movement department! We are still praying though and now he's taking Flomax as well as some natural herbal stuff that is supposed to break them down. It's been a week though and nothing...no pain or sign of those pesky stones. So we may have to do the lithotripsy on the 5th. Either way, I'm ready for him to be over with them. It's wearing him out. I adore my husband. He is a fantastic dad. Our children are so blessed. I hate that his Father's Day was such a bust. And I hate that he's dealt with this for so long.
But in all things, God is good and He is actively involved in the details of His children's lives. We are grateful for His provision and trust that it will all go according to how He sees fit. In the meantime though, you know I'm talking to those stones and telling them to "go to the light, go to the light!"
