Yep. Our little man awoke this morning {last night} for the first time as a one year old. Eeek. I still can't believe we have a one year old! :) I keep thinking that I hope someone is loving on him extra good today. I pray someone knows that it's not wasted time to just swoon over him today. I wish to the heavens that I could squeeze him today.
And kiss his checks.
And touch his sweet face.
And sing Happy Birthday.
And shoot his very own smash the cake photo session in our backyard.
But we're still a good ways away from all that. {Even though things look a little more promising today! Details later...}, we had to settle for some birthday celebrating without the little prince. Sigh.
Just like we did with Joel, the kids and I let our sweet tooth call the shots last night and surrendered to Dunc@n Hines. Ya'll know I don't bake. :)

I went with red velvet cake. You know, red is the color of China. Suweet.
And I figured that the little prince would like some little cakes. So cupcakes were the order of the day. The kiddies each had their own jobs to do which of course included a batter tasting {minus the eggs.}. Forgive me, it's gross I know. Especially when the batter is red velvet...eeew. It looks so yucky in their mouths! lol They nearly came to blows over the whole tasting bit. I was on hand to photograph referee the event.

The kids actually did fine with it and since I was committed to letting them do most all of the work, I delegated the task of icing to them as well. Oh, my. They enjoyed this. A little too much.

Jase joined us in the kitchen once the slopping of copious amounts of cream cheese icing donned our cupcakes. We placed a "1" candle in the middle and sang to our sweet prince a half a world away. Years from now, maybe he will read this journal and know how much we missed him on his special day.

Happy 1st birthday, Little Prince.
We love you already and we missed you
today. Our biggest consolation for not being able
to hold you and love on you in person, is knowing that
one is the only birthday you will ever spend without your family.
Hold fast, dear one. We're coming as fast as we can.
Lots of love from way over here to wherever you are today~
